Three-thousand, two-hundred and fifty-three. I am spelling out the number for a reason. As I contemplate texts like Al Franken’s Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right, and Michael Moore’s Stupid White Men and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation, I begin to question the health and condition of the Leftist movement. After a friend of mine accused me of being anti-American, during the premiere of the new video This Revolution Will Be Televised by Razee-TV, as I glimpsed the ever-rising death toll, which stands at 3,253, today, I realized that none of us are doing enough to cut back on our oil consumption and/or stop the war. Only once in our history has a former vice-president written, produced, and directed a movie, any movie, much less a movie concerning global warming, and what has been our response?

"Will we be remembered as the generation who sat back and allowed illegal wars to spread throughout the Middle East, torture legalized, the rights of women and gays eviscerated, and a fascistic police-state constructed? Or will we refuse to go along with this? Will we lead millions to erupt in political protest and defiant truth telling? Will we make it our mission to bring the crimes of the Bush regime to a halt?" So ring the rallying cries of the New Left. Situated much further to the left than the Demonbrats or even the Green Party, there is an ever-growing mass of people who feel that their interests are not being met, on the current political spectrum, by this administration, or the Beltway. As we enter into the fifth year of an unjust and corrupt war, we must ask ourselves at what cost do we want Saddam Hussein removed from power, Osama Bin Laden found and executed, and the weapons of mass destruction found and destroyed, as we attempt to persuade the hearts and minds of the Iraqi and Afghani people that an occupied country is a happy and productive country?

As I am reminded, if I speak out against the war, I am anti-American. If I question why we need the overwhelming watchful eye of the PATRIOT Acts, I am a terrorist. If I think for myself, I am an enemy combatant. Meanwhile, Al Franken begins his bid for a Senate seat, Moore and Gore are awarded Oscars for their documentaries, and I would argue that the Left is alive and well, and living in popular culture. I believe that it is important for us to examine our motivating factors within the political construct of society. Where are we taking this nation, the world, and the generations to follow us? Is it going to be a fun and exciting adventure, or one made up of suffering and discontent?

Only the victorious have histories. We were duped into starting a war for profit, as we have learned, by now. We have not enlisted enough politicians’ children. One is left to wonder if the United Kingdom would be using diplomatic, rather than militaristic, means to have their hostages returned to them, if Prince Harry were not anticipating a lengthy tour of duty in Iraq. Again, I ask you- at what cost will we keep driving our SUVs, and sending young men and women into battle zones? 3053 and climbing.

I know that the common opinion of myspace is that it is inundated with young people looking for others to play with them, in the sandbox, with the occasional rockstar thrown into the mix. In terms of social networking, myspace is the Hummer™ of cyberspace. You can fit 100 people inside, while rolling over cars, trucks, and heroes. A few of my heroes have emerged through a recent excursion on the World Wide Peace Train. Please follow the link, and sign your name up for peace. The Left is alive and kicking. Tell our mother.

"I have neither mother nor father
to pity my sorrow.
I am an orphan.
All alone I bear torment and disgrace
in the depths of my soul.
Such was the pain
of not finding a good woman
who would fill this great void,
which they left behind,
with tender love."
-- When Frida Kahlo was in Paris, Pablo Picasso taught her this song, which she often sang for Diego Rivera or for friends. It is called El Huérfano (The Orphan).
